The retreat will take place on Sunday, November 10 from 10:00am-1:00pm CST* and is limited to 15 registrants.
This session includes feedback on a one-page query as well as the opportunity to collaborate on query language with the help of supportive community.
The live query critique helped so much with seeing my query through others’ eyes and getting those objective reactions. ~2023 Query Retreat Attendee

What we’ll do:
Explore synopsis writing with pitch-y (proud/confident/OWNING IT) language.
Collaborate with each other to create new pitch language/book concepts/rich ways to conceive of and communicate your work. Some of the most effective query writing happens in collaboration with others.
Learn from two special guest agents. See below.
Adjustments to the format for Query Retreat alums:
Each registrant will have the opportunity to submit a query for feedback from either Claire Campbell or co-teacher and pitch-witch Megan Clark.
This option offers you the chance to work on your pitch during our retreat with additional feedback and guidance from folks who have LOTS of experience pitching.
A note on questions and workshop:
The first five registrants will have priority for the live query workshop as well as asking questions during the Q&A. We will try and get to as many as we can.
Meet the agents participating in this year’s Q&A….
Allison Hunter began her publishing career in 2005 working for the Los Angeles-based literary publicity firm Kim-from-L.A, and was an agent at InkWell Management, the Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency, and Janklow & Nesbit before co-founding Trellis Literary Management in the fall of 2021, in search of more collaborative, boutique approach to client representation. Allison is actively acquiring literary and commercial adult fiction, especially focusing on upmarket book club and women’s fiction, romance and rom coms, thrillers and domestic suspense, plus select memoir, narrative nonfiction, and the occasional prescriptive project. Allison has a B.A. in American Studies and Creative Writing from Stanford University and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, she now lives in Austin, Texas, after over a decade in New York City. She loves to cook, host dinner parties, watch all medical TV shows, and brainstorm new book ideas and plots with her authors.
Amy Bishop-Wycisk joined Trellis Literary Management in 2023 after eight years with Dystel, Goderich & Bourret. She represents a wide-ranging list in fiction, nonfiction, and YA. Across the board, she has a special interest in underrepresented voices, especially from the AAPI community. Her incredible clients have been NYT, USA Today, and Indie Bestsellers, a Reese’s Book Club pick, and winners of the James Beard Award and Edgar Awards. Before diving into the world of publishing, she graduated from SUNY Geneseo with degrees in Creative Writing and German. Though she grew up upstate, she currently resides in Woodside, Queens with her sweet husband and very demanding cat.
